Southern Woods

The successful completion of a major expansion project for Southern Woods, one of the South Island’s premier plant nurseries, demonstrated our end-to-end capability.

From navigating complex consent processes to executing precise earthworks, our team demonstrated why we are trusted partners for significant infrastructure projects.

Land development expertise

Between 2022 and 2024, our team managed every aspect of Southern Woods’ strategic expansion, from initial design through to final construction. We successfully:

  • Secured all necessary consents from both Selwyn District Council and Canterbury Regional Council
  • Managed complex environmental considerations, including contaminated soil removal
  • Designed and implemented stormwater solutions
  • Completed substantial earthworks involving 23,200m³ of material
  • Installed extensive erosion and sediment controls
  • Constructed stormwater basins and boundary bunds
  • Prepared 11,000m² of land with specialized AP65 base course

Innovative solutions for complex challenges

What made this project particularly successful was our ability to adapt to changing requirements through the development process.  When plans evolved, our team efficiently secured variations to existing consents, including adjusting earthworks volumes and modifying stormwater management solutions to better suit the client’s needs.

End-to-end project solutions

This project showcased our ability to manage every stage of complex land development projects. We started with detailed site surveying and comprehensive stormwater design and then progressed into the consent phase.

Our in-house expertise allowed us to navigate both local and regional consent processes simultaneously, securing approvals for earthworks, contaminated soil management, and stormwater discharge. Once consents were in place, our team seamlessly transitioned to the construction phase, mobilising our own heavy machinery fleet and specialised equipment.

This integrated approach meant we could control quality at every stage, from initial groundwork through to final construction.
