Class 5 Truck Driver

Protranz is growing, and we’re looking for a solid, safety-minded Class 5 Driver to join the team.

You’ll be driving modern equipment completing a mix of civil and cartage work across Christchurch and wider Canterbury. The role includes a combination of around-town and open-road running with the trailer, plus the occasional trip further afield when the job requires it.

If you like variety, decent hours and working with a crew that gets things done, this could be a great fit.

What you’ll be doing

  • Operating heavy vehicle and trailer combinations safely and professionally across civil and cartage jobs
  • Moving a range of goods between yards, sites and customers
  • Completing thorough pre-start and end-of-day checks to keep the truck safe, compliant and ready for the next run
  • Meeting schedules without compromising safety, load security or quality standards
  • Keeping logbooks, vehicle checks and basic paperwork accurate and up to date
  • Communicating with dispatch, site supervisors and clients to keep loads and jobs running smoothly
  • Taking pride in keeping your truck, gear and work area tidy and well looked after

What we’re looking for

  • A full New Zealand Class 5 licence
  • A clean or good driving record and a genuine commitment to safe driving
  • Experience in civil, bulk haulage, construction cartage or similar heavy transport work is a real advantage
  • Someone reliable who turns up on time, ready to work, and can be trusted to get on with the job
  • Confidence working independently in the cab and as part of a small, close-knit crew on site
  • A straight-up communicator with a practical, down-to-earth attitude

Why drive with Protranz

  • A solid hourly rate, so safe, steady and reliable work is recognised in your pay
  • Fuel allowance included, helping you keep more of what you earn
  • Consistent, ongoing work with a growing civil and transport company
  • Variety in your day, including different gear, sites, loads and responsibilities
  • Opportunities to develop your skills and move into other equipment or roles as the business grows
  • A capable crew that backs each other and takes pride in doing the job properly
  • Modern, well-maintained equipment

Pre-employment requirements
The successful applicant will need to complete:

  • A pre-employment medical assessment
  • Drug and alcohol testing
  • Licence and driving-record verification

If you’re a capable Class 5 driver looking for steady work, quality gear and a team that values doing things safely and properly, apply now.
